Matthew Shaw joined GOSH as Medical Director in March 2018 and was appointed Chief Executive in December 2018.
He was previously Deputy Chief Executive and Transformation Director of the Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital (RNOH) and Medical Director in BUPA Health Services.
A consultant spinal surgeon who has worked in the NHS for 23 years, Mat is a passionate advocate for universal access to high quality services and champions new ways of working, embracing technology and partnership to advance care, research and innovation.
In December 2023 Mat took on the additional role of Interim CEO for Whittington Health NHS Trust.
When this ended in March the following year, he took on temporary additional responsibility for operations at Great Ormond Street Hospital (GOSH).
Mat is collaborative by nature and current roles outside GOSH include Genomics England, University College London Partnership Board and Co-Chair of the Childrens Health Alliance.
